Burundi Gisoko Washed Processed (Dark Roast)

Background

This washed processed coffee comes to us from our friends at Falcon Coffee.  While we've had African coffees as dark roasts in the past, we typically feature them as light roasts in order to highlight the flavor of the coffee rather than the roast profile.  Occasionally we do a dark roast to give the coffee more body and an easier flavor to approach.

Flavor Profile

This coffee has a chocolaty, caramel and cinnamon taste with a mild spice and apple aroma.  Though this is a dark roast, it has a medium body, rich mouth feel and a dry finish.

Where This Coffee Works

African coffees can be polarizing options for some folks, especially if you are not a fan of more acidic flavors.  By roasting an African coffee dark, the level of acidity is diminished and they take on a bigger, bolder flavor than the usual African coffee.  If you're normally a dark roast fan but curious about what a Burundi coffee tastes like, this is worth a shot.
