It’s a mix of Catuaí, Lempira and Parainema varieties.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp id=\"yui_3_17_2_1_1693854344846_54682\" class=\"\"\u003eThe coffee has a \u003cstrong\u003ecinnamon, brown sugar and mildly nutty \u003c\/strong\u003eflavor with a \u003cb\u003etouch of a vanilla\u003c\/b\u003e.  It's a very easy light roast to drink with a \u003cstrong\u003eslight zip of acidity \u003c\/strong\u003ethat pairs well with the \u003cstrong\u003efloral\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003esweet\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003emellow taste\u003c\/strong\u003e and has a \u003cstrong\u003ejuicy finish\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"\"\u003eIf you're not normally a light roast coffee drinker, this is a very easy coffee to work into your routine to try a light roast.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eMore Information on the Medina Galeas\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMerlin Medina\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e began her life in coffee as a young girl. Though her family did not own a finca, her mother took her to the farms where she worked. Later, when Merlin married, her husband \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHubert\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e gave her a section of his farm. For Merlin, it was exciting to finally have her \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eown finca\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, even if it required replanting and renovation. She often relied on loans to keep production going during periods of \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003elow coffee prices\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e2018\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, Merlin trained as a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e“Five-Star” Cupper with IHCAFE\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, and that same year her coffee placed \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e34th in the Cup of Excellence\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. She is a member of the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCAFESA cooperative in Marcala\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e and, with Hubert, owns \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003efour small farms totaling 10.5 hectares\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. Together they manage a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ecupping laboratory\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, offering services to other producers in the region.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMerlin and Hubert are the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eprimary cupping partners for Honduran Coffee Alliance (HCA)\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e and are both \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ekey collaborators and close friends\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e of our team. For Merlin, coffee is a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003efamily crop\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. She involves her \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003etwo children, a boy and a girl\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, in production and cupping whenever they are not in school, teaching them to value quality and community.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eUpdate 2024\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e – Merlin renovated parts of her farm with declining yields and continued facing \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003elabor shortages\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. She also attended the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSCA Expo in April\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, where she met roasters and returned motivated to keep improving her farm and lab.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eUpdate 2025\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e – This year, Merlin became one of the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003emain allies of HCA\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, overseeing an all-women team that hand-selected \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eexport-quality coffees\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. On the farm, she continues investing in \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003erenovation, shade management, and processing improvements\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. At the lab, she and Hubert are expanding services to help more producers showcase their coffees.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMerlin’s dream remains to secure a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003elong-term committed buyer\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e who values her dedication.
